Jalal Toufic's virtual press, Forthcoming Books, has put out a collection of writings on what Toufic calls "surpassing disaster." This collection collates texts from Toufic's books Oversensitivity, Forthcoming, and Undeserving Lebanon. More than perhaps any other concept, I have found Toufic's concept of the "surpassing disaster" a useful and compelling way to think about cultural catastrophe.
