Friends, compatriots, fellow-lamenters,
We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce—on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate—that has a real possibility of becoming fact.
Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she attempted to ban books and fired the librarian who refused), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of experience.
We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and all together devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably benefited from.
First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.
Therefore, we invite you to reply here with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation.
Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence.
We will post your responses on a blog called "Women Against Sarah Palin," which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience—the greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.
Please email your responses to womensaynopalin@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and action.
VIVA!

ReplyDeleteI received your call to action in an email and submitted a response. My question: where do we go to read each other's resplies? I very much want to see how my sentiments align with others'. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Well said. In every election I've heard someone comment that he/she is scared to death that so-and-so will be elected. I always chalked that up to hyperbole . . . until now. I am fearful for all of us and wonder what kind of country my grandchildren will inherit.

I, too, would like to know where to find the blog where my comments went!
ReplyDeleteI posted the link to the blog. A friend said (and I agree), a most unfortunate acronym is formed; Women Against Sarah Palin.
ReplyDeleteJust fyi
Don't believe everything you read. Think for yourself and check these "facts".
ReplyDeleteThis woman does not speak for me and MANY of the women I know -This is a dangerous situation and we could see our country truly go back in time. Isn't it bad enough what George Bush did to this country? PLease vote against the McCain /Palin ticket . Stand up and be counted!
ReplyDeleteI think that Ms. Palin is competent, assertive and a real fighter for what she believes in. However, she does not have any of the values, principles, or priorities that I want to see in my country or presidential administration. She represents the same values as the last eight years which has resulted in our country going rapidly downhill in every aspect of its being.
ReplyDeleteWe no longer have a balanced budget as we did with Bill Clinton; to the contrary, we are heavily in debt. We lost 75,000-85,000 jobs in August alone. We don't care whether everyone has health care as long as we are covered; and, we don't care whether others have the basic necessities of life as long as our families are comfortable and well fed. We don't care that the big companies get huge tax cuts but the middle class doesn't. We don't care whether the sons and husbands of our country are lost in battles we should not be fighting as long as they are not our sons and husbands. We aren't looking beyond our lifetime to what the environment will be like for our grandchildren. We are willing to give up our right to chose and our right to equal pay. We are willing to give up the right to make sure our children have the proper sex education they deserve to help keep them safe. We are almost willing to give up our right to vote.
Sarah Palin is a maverick as is John McCain. He chose her because she would go to any lengths to get what she wanted. What does it matter that they are supporting principles and issues that we find abhorrent? It matters lots because they would be all the more dangerous if they were elected.
Look at the pluses and minuses of a McCain/Palin Republican WhiteHouse. It not only would be more of the past eight years, it would be more of the past eight years with two differences--a self proclaimed pit bull in lipstick---and a war hero who voted with Bush 90% of the time. Are there any pluses?
Out country needs a President and Vice President who can help us heal not a pit bull in lipstick to pull us further apart or a war hero who would give us four more years of the same.
Ms. Palin doesn't represent my worldview, or even my US views. Her acceptance speech scared me, and I am not easily frightened. I see her as a personal threat to woman's rights, and by extension, to public safety.
ReplyDeleteDaily, I see firsthand the sad results of unwanted pregnancies due to lack of information and lack of access to birth control services - they are the abused and neglected kids I teach. The current administration has imposed its religion on women's bodies long enough, and I fear accepting Sarah Palin as VP would only ratchet up the attacks.

ReplyDeleteWomen Against McCain
Sarah Palin is a leader whose shares none of my values as a woman. Please lets ignore her- donot get so distracted by her flash and dash that we forget her frightening agenda. McCain has demonstrated his true self by this pick- not a maverick but an appeaser of the far right- not a reasoned decision-maker but reckless, not an agent of change but a supporter of the status quo.- A grandmother from Schenectady, NY.

ReplyDeleteFact check a few of these points.
Although I am a Obama supporter, I held a great deal of respect for John McCain until his vice presidential selection. His choice did not involve choosing the best candidate for our country, it only emphasized his quest to win at any cost. "Country First" cannot be his motto when he chooses someone with so little experience and so ill equipped to be president. I expect a platform different from my own personal choices from the Republican party. That's why I vote Democratic. However, I don't expect to be treated like an idiot, being told that Palin has more experience than Barak Obama; that she does have international experience because Russia is so close to Alaska; that she is not in favor of pork barrel spending when she took $23 million for just that when she was governor; and that she will fight corruption when she herself may be labeled corrupt for abuse of power. Michele
ReplyDeleteWell, I'M certainly against her as a mother!! What is she thinking to leave a Down's Syndrome baby, a pregnant teenager, and three other children to waltz off and play politics!! Her priorities, as much as her policies, SUCK!!
ReplyDeleteBrighde
Another ignorant person who has rarely travelled outside her country? (And only in the last 18 months)? Another war monger who thinks God wants her in the executive branch? Who thinks we have a God that's fighting on our side in Iraq (and therefore, presumably, that Iraqis have no God, and thus the upwards of 1 million human beings that have been slaughtered there don't count)? (Nevermind another person who pronounces it "ear-rack".) We have enough blood on our hands. We don't need any more. And we don't to be told it's "big government" to take of us when it comes to education, health care, mortgages - AND HURRICANES. All the things we NEED is what she'll keep from us.
ReplyDeleteI would like to forward the letter, but I think some of the claims are inaccurate. In particular, I have read in TIME that Ms. Palin is a member of FFL (Feminists for Life) who oppose abortion but support birth control. I have also read that she believes that sex ed should teach abstinence rather than contraception -- so I don't think one can flatly say that she is "against birth control." My solution is to send the letter out to friends - and delete the reference to birth control.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important to try and hold to truth as much as possible in the face of the McCain/Palin campaign of deceipt.
Lyra & Quinn ~ Thanks for your Blog,
ReplyDeleteI shout "NO" against Sarah Palin as Vice-President because she...
**Opposes comprehensive sex-education in public schools and supports abstinence only education
**Attempted to ban books from the Wasilla, Alaska public library that she judged contained inappropriate language, and then threatened to fire the librarian for not giving her full support to her (Mayor Sarah Palin).
**Sarah is in favor of criminalizing women who recieve an abortion in the United States. This, despite the fact that criminalizing abortion does little to stop women who are seeking the procedure. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/12/world/12abortion.html
Sarah Palin will turn back the hands of time for women of this country. We don't need an anti-women Vice-President in the White House.
Lisa, 47, Montana
I am Republican. I say "YES to Sarah Palin."
ReplyDeleteYou believe that the choice of Sarah Palin as a running mate was a terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce-on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate-that has a real possibility of becoming fact . . . how about the choice of Joe Biden! Hmmm! Think about that farce!
Sarah Palin is pro-Life. So am I.
You say that Sarah Palin has a complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the
planet. And, you think Obama is prepared to become the most powerful person on the planet . . . NOT!
Are you dyed in the wool Democrats? Even if you are, given our choices at this point, you should get behing Sarah Palin. She DOES represent us. She DOES demonstrate and uphold our interests as American women. You presume
that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket is to win over women voters. Who would you have chosen as John McCain's running mate?
Whether or not you post my message on your blog, thank you for reading my message.
Sambo, Lakewood, Colorado
I am against Sarah Palin as a running mate for John McCain. Of course, I had never heard of her before she received the nomination. I believe in checking facts. I have not checked all of them that are in your blog statement. What I have checked out has given me a chill up my spine for the patterns that this candidate has shown.
ReplyDeleteWe have had 8 years of a president who has used an iron fist to intimidate & fire those who do not agree with him. Look at Palin's record of how she handled local officials when she was mayor who did not agree with her polictics. She may claim that her questions to the Librarian were rhetorical & no books were really banned, but what is the underlying message here. It seems she liked to use rhetorical questions to "test" the beliefs of the librarian and others to see if they lined up with her beliefs. If you read the facts about this you see how people were in fact intimidated & had to prove their loyalty. For instance she fired most of them in one day & then hired them back the next (except for one). I guess that one not getting hired back sent a message.
She has also been accused of using her position to get revenge for a family member during a divorce. I say accused, but in my studies of her patterns it doesn't seem very unbelievable.
I think her pattern clearly shows she is a bully who will do anything to push her agenda. Shouldn't she be about the constituents agenda?
Alice, 46, Virginia
I am appalled that writer Sambo would use such a name - that obviously speaks to where her politics start - as a racist to begin with...
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin has been proven a liar in her comments about the Alaska bridge among others.
And what kind of a mother, in this day and age has not educated her own daughter about not getting pregnant at such a youg age? What about taking care of business at home first - she obviously cares about her political career far more than her own family's well-being.
Finally - her taking money from Alaska's taxpayers so she can work at home is something that is unprecedented. Wouldn't we all like that gig!!
In any case - Palin and her one-dimensional view of religion should not be an issue because we must not and cannot elect John McCain - the most war-hungry, militarist we have seen running in an election ever!
I feel that it is my patriotic duty to disagree with the ignorant bitches (and yes, I do mean in-tact female dogs who I can only guess have not yet had (ovario)hysterectomies) who apparently do no research for themselves, but decidedly promote silly propaganda like all good little slanderers do. It's always going to be a liberal democrat who hates to see a republican in office, no matter what he/she has for qualifications or beliefs, that smears this kind of tripe all over the interwebs. (see icanhascheezburger.com for definition)
ReplyDeleteWomen like this make me ashamed to tell people I'm from NY, supposedly the state with the most "common sense". Well, from my recent year's experience (and my couple weeks spent in AK)... more common sense is seen in the heartland and Alaska than the home I once so-adored for 30+ years.
The amazing thing is that people can't even try to compare 'McBama's' experience level to McCain, and so they only have a chance at comparing him to the new woman on the ballot. That's pretty pathetic. If people are afraid of her becoming VP of the US, they probably have good reason to. I'd rather have a woman with steadfast morals from one of the most incredibly conservationist states who has been compared to a Barracuda and a self-proclaimed "Pitty" (in the animal world) than a p@$$&-whipped man who can't even stand on his own two legs. I think people should be more afraid of having a 1st lady like McBama's than a VP like Palin. Ms. McBama is definitely out to accomplish some damage to this already hurting nation.
No one is going to take away our freedoms, because some of us will go back to the front line to fight for them, whether it be speech *or* to bear arms. Enough of this PC BS.
She doesn't represent American women? No, she doesn't represent liberal women who think they are God's gift to a world where God is not allowed, who think they can do whatever they damn well please and suffer no consequences, and who think they are allowed to step on others and offend others, but they are not allowed to be insulted, themselves. I truly hope your daughters hate and reject you for not rearing them with morality over self-indulgence. So sorry she doesn't 'uphold your interests' but your interests do not take precedence over what the country was founded upon. Move to Europe if you think they're more 'civilized.' I hear in Germany if you declare unemployment they can force you into prostitution. Hey, it's a job, right? >:[
Get your bleeding hearts out of your arses and listen to someone with real common sense, for once.

several here have made quite a few assumptions in their little notes ... if your HS English teachers had to teach Spanish instead of English, you'd never know what "assume" really means.
My qualifications? More than working for a *magazine*. Worked for IBM, I know the people that got fired or "let go" as you PC sugar-coating Commies say, just so their jobs could go overseas. Worked in pharmacy, I saw the sadly increasing numbers of children you would risk giving permanent liver and/or kidney damage to (with narcotics and barbituates!) because you're too impatient and self-absorbed and wouldn't discipline, the one thing a child *actually does* need and that could save his or her life in the long-run. (And you have the nerve to blame teachers!?!)
Currently am a 2nd-year student at a College of Veterinary Medicine; I am a *real* woman. I have 63,000+ in debt for 3 semesters of school so far, and 7 more to go. I have no intention of letting more of my tax dollars go to the idealism of the Democrats (whether it be attempts at socialized medicine or other ridiculous themes like more bene's for the oh-so-many who weren't born here) when I will be in debt 200k by graduation. Get a real education in the real world. And sorry to disappoint, the rest of the country is not NYC, and certainly doesn't revolve around you. GROW UP! Lest another (probably worse) 9/11 happens and reminds you with a bloodied face or a lost loved one.
(Born & raised 90mi N of NYC, watched everything go to crap over the past 15 years, 9/11 didn't help)
For Jet Panthyr...What?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as if there are a lot of jealous women out there! Give it a break and stop tearing yourselves down. You look pathetic.
ReplyDeleteYour opening sentence expressing your “fury” conjures visions of tangle-haired, howling, frightening and ferocious women, airborne and swirling over their cauldron. This fury is apparently due to a “dangerous farce” and a “rudderless Presidential candidate” who has made this horrific choice. And, God help us, it has “a real possibility of becoming fact.”
ReplyDeleteYou will forgive me if I am not falling to my knees in terror. Your communication is nothing if not ridiculous, not to mention overdramatized and often completely inaccurate as it relates to Mrs. Palin. What is the fount of all this disinformation? First of all, she is not “against sex education,” as you state; she is in favor of parents providing it, which some of us lesser evolved persons believe is a parent’s responsibility and not that of public schools. Neither is she against environmental protection, birth control, alternative energy development or polar bears, although it certainly serves your purposes to not just imply in innuendo that she is, but to state so in outright lies.
Neither is she completely unprepared to become the second-most powerful person on the planet. Is there no limit to the blatant hypocrisy of which you and your ilk are capable? Her executive experience far outweighs that of the man whom you would place in the FIRST most powerful office on the planet.
You state that Mrs. Palin is a “devastating choice.” I perceive your problem is that this is quite true; she is proving to be devastating to your candidate of choice by energizing your political adversaries. You are literally running scared. Calm down, flying ladies. Perhaps your lies will reach enough women who aren’t savvy enough to see them as such and you will persuade their vote. Apparently, the plain, simple truth about the issues isn’t strong enough to do so. You are another reminder to us that women are often our own worst enemies.
Does the possibility even exist in your minds that YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR ALL WOMEN? Is Mrs. Palin’s popularity possibly a clue for you in that regard? You do not speak for me, my daughter, my granddaughters, my mother or my grandmother, nor for most of my friends. So, please, avail yourselves of this fact and discontinue your presumptions that you do.
Lastly, I must confess to a certain feeling of shame and degradation at even being called a woman in the same breath in which you refer to yourselves. The real women that I know would never sink to such low depths in their attempts to defeat an adversary. As your supremely articulate candidate said, “You can put lipstick on a pig…”
I include my name and my email address for posting to your blog. I seriously doubt this message will ever see the light of day and will be hidden just as you have attempted to hide the truth and the facts.

The thought of Sarah Palin being a heartbeat away from becoming the leader of the free world is frightening. In reading Jet Panthyr and Helen's comments, I'm struck by how angry and mean spirited they sound. They remind me of how mean spirited, sarcastic and condescending Sarah Palin's speach at the convention was. Are these our examples of what it's like to be Republican or Christian? I agree with Helen that lies might reach women who aren't savvy enough to see them as such and might influence their vote but those lies are coming from the McCain/Palin campaign. As the days go by, we are seeing more proof that Ms. Palin's claims are false & McCain's ads are out & out lies. My concern is that so many of the people in this country don't pay attention to the issues facing our country. They prefer to watch American Idol and only see sound bites or slandering ads and believe them to be true. They vote for someone based on looks or someone they believe is just like them regardless of whether or not they have the credentials or the integrity. John McCain and his lobbyist campaign manager know this and that is why he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. He doesn't care if she is prepared to lead this country should something happen to him. He is counting on people like Helen and he is laughing and so will the rest of the civilized world be laughing if we elect Sarah Palin to be VP. She is arrogant, cocky and a typical power hungry politician. She is, however, very good at what she does and can fool some of the people some of the time. I'm just hoping she can't fool a majority of the people before election day.
ReplyDeleteI too am a grandmother, Helen, and I am very afraid for the future of this country under another 4years of a Bush/McCain/Palin administration. We need compassionate, caring, intelligent, wise leaders like Mr.Obama. I am not a registered democrat and have always voted for the person I believe in, regardless of party affiliation, but I have to say that I find it harder and harder to find a republican these days who puts the welfare of this country before their own pocket book.
I really appreciate the opportunity to express my feelings and hope that we can reach more voters with the truth before it's too late.

Sarah Palin addition to the GOP ticket has helped open dialogue further as to what women of this country most value. My comment is not only based upon this thread, but conversations with friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. that weren’t taking place prior to the end of August. My wish is that we, as women, take care not to let these conversations divide us, weaken us or use this time in history as an excuse to show disrespect for each other.
ReplyDeleteThis Montana woman will NOT be voting for McCain/Palin on November 4th.
Lipstick on a Wingnut
ReplyDeleteJohn McCain chose the supremely under-qualified Sarah Palin as his running mate partly because she is a woman. If you have a problem with that, you're a sexist. She talks incessantly about being a mother of five and uses her newborn, Trig, who has Down syndrome, as a campaign prop. If you wonder how she'll handle all those kids and the Veep job too, you're a super-sexist. "When do they ever ask a man that question?" charges that fiery feminist Rudy Giuliani. Indeed, Palin, who went back to work when Trig was three days old, gets nothing but praise from Phyllis Schlafly, James Dobson and the folks at National Review , who usually blame all the ills of modern America on those neurotic, harried, selfish, frustrated, child-neglecting, husband-castrating working mothers. Even stranger, her five-months-pregnant 17-year-old, Bristol, gets nothing but compassion and respect from Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and others who have spent their careers slut-shaming teens for having sex--and blaming their parents for letting it happen.
If there were an Olympics for hypocrisy, the Republican Party would have more gold medals than Michael Phelps. And Palin would be wearing quite a few of them. It takes chutzpah for a mother to thrust her pregnant teen into the world's harshest spotlight and then demand the world respect the girl's privacy. But then it takes chutzpah to support criminalizing abortion and then praise Bristol's "decision" to have the baby. The right to decide, and privacy, after all, are two of the things Palin wants to deny every other woman, and every other family, in America. Palin's even said she would "choose life" if her daughter was pregnant from rape. Can't you just hear Bristol groaning, "Mo-om...!"
The Republicans bashed Barack Obama as a "celebrity," but now they've got a star of their own, so naturally the rules have changed. Nothing would suit them better than for the media to spend the next two months spellbound by the wacky carnival on ice that is the Palin family: Todd, aka the First Dude, the kids, Levi the hunky bad-boy dad-to-be--well, maybe not him so much after his expletive-adorned MySpace page briefly came to light ("I'm a fuckin' redneck"; "I don't want kids"--whoops). The snowmobiles, the moose burgers, the guns, the hair, the glasses that are flying off America's shelves (starting at $375 a pair, and she has seven). Fretting over the work/family issue alone should take up enough column inches to employ all the female journalists in America from now to next Mother's Day. And don't forget that op-ed staple, What Does This Mean for Feminism?
Well, I'm not playing. I don't care about Sarah Palin's family. I don't care if she's a good mother. I don't care if she's happily married, or who shops and who vacuums, or who takes care of the kids while both parents are at work. I don't want her recipe for caribou hot dogs, either. Life chez Sarah and Todd might make an adorable sitcom ( Leave It to Jesus ?) or a scathing tell-all a decade or so down the road ( Governor Dearest ?). Either way, so what? This is an election, not The View . As for feminism's meaning, what can you say after you've said that her career shows that even right-wing fundamentalist women have taken in feminism's message of empowerment and that's good , but that Palin's example suggests women can do it all without support from society and that's bad ?
Count me as a feminist who never believed that being PTA president meant you could be, well, President. The more time we spend on dippy ruminations--how does she do it? Queen Bee on steroids or the hockey mom next door? how hot is Todd, anyway?--the less focus there will be on the kind of queries that should come first with any vice presidential candidate, and certainly would if Palin were a man. Questions like:
Suppose your 14-year-old daughter Willow is brutally raped in her bedroom by an intruder. She becomes pregnant and wants an abortion. Could you tell the parents of America why you think your child and their children should be forced by law to have their rapists' babies?
You say you don't believe global warming is man-made. Could you tell us what scientists you've spoken with or read who have led you to that conclusion? What do you think the 2,500 scientists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are getting wrong?
If you didn't try to fire Wasilla librarian Mary Ellen Baker over her refusal to consider censoring books, whydid you try to fire her?
What is the European Union, and how does it function?
Forty-seven million Americans lack health insurance. John Goodman, who has advised McCain on healthcare, has proposed redefining them as covered because, he says, anyone can get care at an ER. Do you agree with him?
What is the function of the Federal Reserve?
Cindy and John McCain say you have experience in foreign affairs because Alaska is next to Russia. When did you last speak with Prime Minister Putin, and what did you talk about?
Approximately how old is the earth? Five thousand years? 10,000? 5 billion?
You are a big fan of President Bush, so why didn't you mention him even once in your convention speech?
McCain says cutting earmarks and waste will make up for revenues lost by making the tax cuts permanent. Experts say that won't wash. Balancing the Bush tax cuts plus new ones proposed by McCain would most likely mean cutting Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security. Which would you cut?
You're suing the federal government to have polar bears removed from the endangered species list, even asAlaska's northern coastal ice is melting and falling into the sea. Can you explain the science behind your decision?
You've suggested that God approves of the Iraq War and the Alaska pipeline. How do you know?

ReplyDeleteBeing A Mom, Does Not A Vice President Make!
ReplyDeleteI've heard and read that what attracts many women to Sarah Palin is that she's a mom. So what! Being the second in command, and potentially running this great and complex country requires more than birthing skills. I hope I haven't offended any mothers, but it bugs the hell out of me when women introduce themselves first as moms. I'm sure its wonderful being a mother, but it is also extremely common...extremely. Most women are mothers. It's not a miracle (generally speaking)to have a baby. Women have been giving birth since the beginning of time! I'm for progress in this country, and I don't see ANYTHING progressive within the nature of republicans. I don't hear progress when I listen to them, in fact, I feel and see fear, and hatred of change on the republican side. I'm a registered independent, and I feel most comfortable with the Obama-Biden ticket. I don't think, feel, or believe that the Obama-Biden ticket will lead this country to the gates of hell, but oddly enough, I feel that way when I listen to McCain and Palin. It is not the time to turn back the hands of time. We're better than that, and we need to move forward.
Notice a common thread with McCain-Palin supporters? What's with the name calling? You barely have to scratch the surface of these so-called republican/conservative types before they go ballastic and racist. And are these people really christians? It is freakin scary how nasty and vile the so-called conservative gets when she/he doesn't get their way. This is not joke ladies, and dudes, let us do everything in our power to put the conservative where it belongs.
ReplyDeleteI was taken aback by Jet Panthyr's hate-filled, vitriolic diatribe against women, democrats and everyone else in the world except McCain and Palin. But I guess that's why he's on the side of darkness.
ReplyDeleteMy own concern is that McCain is 72 years old, far past mandatory retirement age in every industry in the country. Despite the longevity of his mother, there is a high probability that, should he win this election, McCain's vice president will have to assume his duties before the end of his term.
What was in his mind that he would inflict on a country that he says he loves the mayor of an 8,500-person village, the governor for two years of a state with fewer people than the city of Detroit, and someone having questionable ethics in both capacities?
McCain has stated he would stay in Iraq for 100 years if necessary and admits he has little understanding of economics. Just what we need right now, right? Wouldn't it seem reasonable to choose a vice-presidential candidate who would shore up his weaknesses? Instead he chose a right-wing, inexperienced, dishonest, anti-intellectual, provincial (but attactive!) fundamentalist who says she hasn't even thought much about Iraq!
He's known for acting on "gut reactions" rather than reason, but it's difficult to see him put his need for the presidency so far behind the needs of this country.
Inspired by Quinn and Lyra's letter, my friend Charlie Oliver and I are producing a LIVE WEBATHON EVENT entitled "Real Women Respond to Palin".
ReplyDeleteI hope you and your readers will join us on October 30th, 2008 from 1-9 pm est, when performers from all walks of life (unknown and celebrity) will lend their voice and human presence to the thousands of women across America who responded to Lyra and Quinn’s letter across America by reading their comments LIVE.
You can find the live stream on our site, womenrespondtopalin.com, or even better embed the live webathon on your blog-just head over to our site for all the info you need.
(why is it a webathon? Because we are facilitating donations to the very organizations that Sarah Palin's policies seek to undermine, like People for the American Way, and Republican's for Choice)
And if you sign up for updates, we promise to remind you before our live event!
Thanks so much! And please pass it on!
All my best!
